From Apple to Google

A first hand experience from someone who’s a long time Apple user and first time Google user.

Hi, my name’s Zoe, and I’ll be blogging my whole experience with the Google Pixel 6. I’ve been an Apple user for a very long time and was somewhat attracted to the Pixel 6 adverts due to its initial release in October 2021. Something about the phone, it’s design and style – with the slick camera on the back to balance the phone when flat on a surface.

After watching endless reviews over a 4 day period – I finally came to the decision and thought “fuck it” I’ll order it. At the time the Google Pixel 6 was on sale for £499 (save £100). Being convinced it was fate, I ordered the phone, in the Stormy Black colour and with Google’s fast delivery it had arrived the next day!

6 Vs 6 Pro and why I went for the 6

Although the Google Pixel 6 Pro has a better camera and screen than the Google Pixel 6, the 6 has a flat screen (the Pro has a curved screen) and in my opinion the overall best design. I’m no fancy photographer so the camera difference didn’t bother me, thus, the Google Pixel 6 seemed like the best, and more affordable option.

Unboxing and first thoughts

Due to this being my first post, this may be a long article as it’s all still fresh information. As my only experience has been the iPhone over the last few years there’s going to be a lot of comparisons. Being used to bigger, may, chunkier boxes it was so bizarre seeing the tiny box the Google Pixel 6 arrived in, makes the phone itself look smaller than what it is. With the phone in the hand it felt smooth, elegant, right. Already using Google for most apps (Gmail, YouTube etc) the system was pretty easy to set up.

One thing as an iPhone user I’ve envied from Android phones is the customisation and how limitless it is with every aspect of the phone, really making it true to you and essentially, how a phone should be. Sometimes I felt at a loss with my iPhone, not being able to find the right home screen designs – customising almost feels blocked on the iPhone. So, after several hours of playing around I’ve already found something that I like whilst I’m still figuring out the quirks of the phone.

From iOS to Android 12

As mentioned before, Android offers a lot more customisations to make the phone more applicable to you or the phone user. Each system has its own pros and cons and both are unique and define themselves very strongly.

Android always seems so confusing because of how much it offers and what it does etc but it just has a longer route of making that change to your phone, although, in my personal opinion I feel as though Android offers more. Being that Android is powered by Google, it only made sense to use Android 12 as it was made to be by the creators themselves, another reason the Google Pixel 6 is one of the most competitive phones on the market.

Overall, I’ve found the switch from iOS to Android very smooth and an easy process as everything is there to help you if you’re stuck.
